Frequently Asked Questions

What devices and versions are supported?
Nazoru runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or later, including an Apple Watch companion, and on Android phones running Android 10 or later.
What can I practice with Nazoru?
Nazoru covers Japanese kanji and kana — both hiragana and katakana. You can browse and practice by JLPT level, WaniKani level, school grade, or kana group, and look up any character by meaning, reading, or romaji.
How does practice work?
Every character can be practiced two ways: tracing it stroke by stroke with on-screen guidance, or recalling it from memory on a blank canvas. Nazoru checks your stroke order and shapes and gives instant feedback. It works equally well with a finger or a stylus.
Is there a review queue I have to keep up with?
No. Nazoru has no review queue and no pass or fail. You choose what to practice from a list that surfaces the characters you're most likely to be forgetting, and completing a session always counts toward your streak.
Do I lose progress if I skip a few days?
No. The Fading Pace setting lets you choose how quickly characters fade, and time away never creates a backlog of overdue reviews. Your streak only steps back if a character's estimated retention has dropped very low by the time you return.
What is the Exposed view, and how do imports work?
Exposed tracks characters you've already encountered elsewhere so Nazoru can prioritize them. Connect WaniKani with your API key for automatic syncing — experimental BunPro support is available too — or import an Anki deck (.apkg) or a custom list (CSV, TSV, or plain text).
Does my progress sync across my devices?
Yes. On Apple devices it syncs automatically through your iCloud account across iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch — no setup required. On Android, you can connect Google Drive to sync between your Android devices and to restore your data after switching phones.
Does my progress sync between iPhone and Android?
Not automatically — iCloud and Google Drive are separate ecosystems, so Apple and Android devices don't sync live with each other. To move your data across, export a .nazoru backup file on one device and import it on the other.
Is Nazoru free?
Nazoru is free to download and includes a couple of free practice sessions every day. Nazoru Pro removes the daily limit for unlimited practice and is available as a monthly or yearly subscription. Pro can be shared with your household through Family Sharing.
How do I restore, manage, or cancel my subscription?
If you reinstall or move to a new device using the same store account, open the subscription screen in Nazoru and tap Restore Purchases. To change or cancel Nazoru Pro, manage it in your App Store account (iOS) or your Google Play subscriptions (Android).
Does Nazoru work offline?
Yes. Every character, stroke, and practice session works fully offline — all of the data ships inside the app. An internet connection is only needed for optional extras like syncing WaniKani or backing up to iCloud or Google Drive.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your practice data stays on your device and in your own iCloud or Google Drive — Elysoft runs no servers or accounts and never has access to it. If you connect WaniKani, your API key is stored only on your device.
